Multnomah County has the position for you! The Health Department invites applications for a DENTAL DIRECTOR (1.0 FTE) in our Integrated Clinical Services (ICS) Division.

ICS provides access to culturally competent care and high quality clinical services that link physical and behavioral health and social services for the poor, uninsured and homeless populations. Services include medical care, disease management for chronic illness, specialized care for HIV positive individuals, behavioral health, corrections health, family planning, prenatal care, dental care and preventative services such as well child healthcare, immunizations, and nutrition services. By integrating all these healthcare services under one organization, ICS can provide clients a continuity of care, improve operation efficiencies, and maximize opportunities with grants and programs for special populations.

THE POSITION
As the Multnomah County Health Department’s Dental Director you will manage, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the activities of the Dental Care Services. Dental Services are provided at 6 clinics throughout Multnomah County and dental sealant and screening services are provided at most Multnomah County elementary schools and middle schools. The Dental Director provides dental care direction and consultation to County dental providers directed toward the promotion of public health dentistry.

Essential Job Function Areas include:
Dental Leadership – Responsible for the leadership of Multnomah County’s Dental Services division and related administrative services, alignment and implementation of strategic direction, and leads all activities of the division by determining policy, program priorities and the utilization of resources in order to carry out the goals and objectives of the division. The Dental Director will lead, recruit, hire, orient, and direct education activities and evaluation of dental providers and their clinical work.

Quality Direction – Responsible for overall administration of operations including; Reviewing and evaluating the results and quality of clinical services and program activities. Assures compliance with state, federal, and local laws and alignment with values, policies, goals, and objectives set forth by the Joint Commission, Bureau of Primary Health Care, Community Health Council, Board of County Commissioners, and Department leadership.

Strategic Planning - Works with ICS Strategic Framework and Health Department Strategic Plan to direct, oversee and develop dental care services work plans. Monitors clinical policies and procedures, reviews and evaluates products, methods and procedures. Implements strategies that increase integration of services, compliance with policy and procedures in dental care, and meets strategic objectives.

External Relationships - Represent the County when dealing with external stakeholders regarding collaboration directly related to the delivery of dental services for county residents.

Financial/Budget – Develops, prepares and implements the dental and oral health budgets, and oversight of funds.

Clinic/Direct Clinical Services - Performs professional dental and oral surgical services for patients at a County dental clinic.

TO QUALIFY:

Education/Training: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a program accredited by the American Dental Association.

Experience: Five (5) years providing clinical dental services, including two (2) years of leadership/management experience.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of Oregon. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Controlled Substance registration certificate and a CPR certificate.

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid drivers license at the time of hire, and/or additional licenses or certificates.
