Senior Project Engineer – Power Electronics & Energy Systems

Hyster-Yale Group is looking for an energetic and innovative Senior Project Engineer for our Power Electronics & Energy Systems team in Portland, OR. This individual interacts with all aspects of the organization, including marketing, manufacturing, procurement, and test, to ensure that we deliver quality forklift trucks. Lead the architecture, design and development of power electronic systems for hydrogen fuel cells, Li-Ion batteries, DC/DC converters, and motor controllers
Provide team leadership, technical leadership, and project management
Own the electrical architecture for high and low voltage systems
Develop technical specifications and schedules
Develop and analyze system and subsystem requirements
Provide solutions that may include both hardware and software components
Oversight of supplier provided hardware and software designs
In-depth analysis of electronic and electrical component specifications
Selection of components, controllers, motors, sensors, actuators, switches, and devices to support system designs
Ensure that the team’s work product meets the quality, reliability, performance, and cost expectations of internal and external customers
Lead the identification and implementation of improved processes for product innovation, reliability, cost, development efficiency, and customer responsiveness
Minimum Requirements:

BS EE or related engineering discipline
10+ years industry experience
Experience managing a 2-6 member design team
Project management and planning
Capable of making control and electrical system architecture decisions
Capable of analyzing board level chip options and making informed recommendations – processors, memory, transceivers, drivers
Experience with vehicle/automotive machines
Familiarity with model based software development
Familiarity with fuel cell, Li-Ion, motor control technology, DC/DC conversion
Understanding of electric motors for traction and hydraulic applications
Understanding of electrical power management and control system theory
Preferred Requirements:

MS EE with focus on Power Electronics or Alternative Energies
Experience in Power Electronic system design for Hybrid Power Systems
Proficient with analysis and troubleshooting of electronic and electrical circuits
Experience with model based software development
Experience with Matlab and Simulink
Proficient with programming and troubleshooting CAN communication devices and networks
Experience in C programming language
Experience with fuel cell, Li-Ion, and motor control design and development
Familiarity with automotive and industrial equipment regulations and standards
