I truly value PiD’s mission statement.(I wish I could remember my original answer to this question from my interview to volunteer on a committee a few years ago. It obviously worked.)
As I look at it now, the clear focus on “attracting”, “retaining” and “developing” talent provides a strong strategic framework for every program and event PiD creates. That focus helps foster wider perspectives and stronger connections throughout the region.
The people. I have met some of the most wonderful and insightful people through PiD. Being a part of both the CAC and the LC over the years has provided me with the opportunity to spend time and be inspired by talented people from all over the region and a variety of industries. I’ve truly enjoyed our in-person gatherings and meetings. I also enjoy picking apart the challenges Portland faces and working with both committees and PiD staff to address those challenges.
I’d love to continue providing opportunities to create new connections and deepen existing ones within the community. While my workplace excels at welcoming people to Portland from around the globe, and our internal community is strong, I’m curious about the strength of connections to the wider community. I suspect other workplaces might have a similar dynamic, so I’d like to continue finding programming and events that help individuals new to Portland build connections beyond their immediate workplace.
