Black Nativity is a soul-stirring gospel song play featuring Christmas carols sung in gospel style, brand-new songs for the show, dance performances, and storytelling. Black Nativity by poet and playwright Langston Hughes (1901-1967) premiered Off-Broadway in 1961. It was one of the first plays staged there written by an African American. Performances Thursday and Friday, 7:30 pm, Saturday-Sunday matinees at 3:00 pm. For 40 years, PassinArt has produced African American Theatre in Oregon. Its mission is to entertain, educate, and celebrate our culture while highlighting community issues.
