The Urban League of Portland is hosting a Lobby Day on February 22nd from 11 am to 12 pm! We will have 2 guests speaking during Lobby Day, Jeannette Ward Horton the Co-Founder of NuProject and Senator Akasha Lawrence Spence District 18- Portland.
For the 2022 Legislative Session, the Urban League of Portland has prioritized close to twenty bills this legislative session. During our Lobby Day event, we will be focusing on Senate Bill 1579: Equity Investment Act. Over four decades of mass incarceration and the War on Drugs exacerbate underlying wealth disparities, and if left unaddressed, it will continue to limit the economic potential of the entire state of Oregon. That’s why a culturally specific approach like the Equity Investment Act will help close the wealth gap. Senate Bill 1579 will create generational wealth equity in the communities most harmed by over-policing, the War on Drugs and the criminal justice system. The Equity Investment Act will Invest in programs that rebuild wealth for Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities, including entrepreneurship, workforce development, and paths to home and land ownership.
