Why did you move here?

Accepted the position of president at OHSU

What is one thing that you need/want from a community right now?

OHSU is launching a new strategic plan with a vision to reimagine Oregon as the healthcare innovation hub of our country. Having community partnership in how we can achieve this vision and how it would be most beneficial for Oregon's diverse communities.

What kind of civic connection are you interested in making?

As president of OHSU, a significant part of my role is community engagement to support OHSU’s mission of teaching, healing and discovery. OHSU is Oregon’s only academic health center, one of two Level 1 trauma centers in the state, a safety net hospital with a third of patients on Medicaid, and a university that deeply embodies diversity, equity and inclusion as core values. To adequately support OHSU’s mission and the people we serve, I must have strong relationships with donors, community leaders, legislators, and leaders of peer educational institutions and professional organizations throughout the state. As such, I spend about a third of my time building and growing these important relationships. Although I have only been in Oregon and at OHSU for about 6 months, engaging with community leaders and building these relationships has been and will continue to remain a top priority. It is also one of the most gratifying parts of the work I do.
