My Last 10 Weeks as Partners in Diversity’s Summer Intern.
My name is Kristie Chu, and I am an upcoming senior majoring in Sociology at the University of Oregon. This summer, I had the exciting opportunity to join the Partners in Diversity team as a Program Intern. By assisting with the planning of events such as Professional Resource Groups, Breakfast for Champions, Lunch and Learn, and the signature Say Hey!, I gained valuable experience in the non-profit sector and developed a deeper understanding of what it means to create a diverse environment where everyone feels like they belong.
In addition to program planning, I also had the chance to contribute to creating social media content, gathering and analyzing information, and supporting various projects that furthered the organization’s mission. These tasks allowed me to enhance my skills in communication, teamwork, and project coordination, all while working in a dynamic and engaging environment.
Throughout these 10 weeks, I was fortunate to collaborate with an incredibly supportive and inspiring team that provided mentorship and guidance from the very first day of my internship. Their encouragement not only helped me grow professionally, but also instilled in me a stronger commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all areas of my work.
This experience has been truly motivating and transformative, and I am deeply grateful to both the Partners in Diversity team and the UO PIE team for making it possible. Moving forward, I intend to carry everything I have learned with me, along with a greater appreciation for those dedicated to driving meaningful change.
