Community Engagement

Title: Urban Forestry Commission

Start Date: December 10, 2021

Organization: Portland Parks

Location: Portland

Applicants are being sought for appointment to the Urban Forestry Commission (UFC) and your help spreading this news is appreciated! The UFC is comprised of 11 volunteers who advise the City on policies affecting trees and the urban forest in Portland. While the UFC’s work has always been important in preserving and expanding the urban forest, the increasingly vital role that urban trees play in mitigating the public health impacts of climate change has brought renewed urgency. The UFC is currently engaged in multiple efforts to help address these challenges. For the past several years we’ve sought for the UFC to better include communities which have not been represented in the past. Progress has been made, but much more is needed. The UFC will have three openings beginning March 2022, presenting a new opportunity. Anyone who may be interested is welcome to contact UF’s Brian Landoe (brian.landoe@portlandoregon.gov) for questions about the UFC, to complete the application via phone or meeting, or any other need. No special training or professional background is required to be appointed to the UFC; Commissioners are not expected to have arboricultural expertise, rather to provide a community voice. Training is provided to Commissioners. The application can be found here along with additional information: Join the Urban Forestry Commission | Portland.gov. Applications are due by December 17, 2021.
