Community Engagement

Minds Matter Portland connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Students attend Minds Matter sessions weekly during the school year from Sophomore through Senior year, working on writing, math, summer program exploration, and college applications. Volunteer tutors and mentors work with students to ensure they are ready for life in college and beyond.

100% of Minds Matter grads are accepted to 4-year universities with substantial financial aid!

Volunteer with us! We need amazing people to volunteer as tutors, mentors, and college counselors for our students. Most roles have weekly 2-hour commitments at our NE Portland location, but we have many non-Saturday roles also.

BIPOC folks, bilingual/multilingual speakers, and anyone whose life experiences align with those of the youth we serve from marginalized and economically-disadvantaged communities are especially sought as mentor candidates.
