A disheartening verdict

November 19, 2021 – We are disheartened by the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse in the murder of two unarmed men and wounding of another at a Black Lives Matter rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020. The verdict is another example of the failure of accountability and further demonstrates the racial disparities in our justice system.

At the same time, attorneys are wrapping up the trial of the three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed Black man, in February 2020 in Georgia. Cases like these can have deep impact on our communities of color and your employees of color. They can cause distress and harm and aggravate past trauma.

Partners in Diversity continues to call for solidarity in ending systemic racism and working together to build a safe and inclusive environment. We urge employers to commit themselves to actions that contribute to equity and belonging, and find ways to support employees of color, especially your Black employees.
