She/Her/Ella | Wise Fellow and POCUS Clinical Instructor
Company: OHSU
Moved Here from: Albuquerque, NM on June 2024
Why did you move here?

I moved here as part of my medical training, I chose to complete my residency at the Internal Medicine program at OHSU-Hillsboro because it was a great opportunity to learn about curriculum development while being part of the community in a smaller hospital. Being able to work with non-english proficient and Latino/a/x patients in the hospital and clinic was rewarding and made me feel at home.

What is one thing that you need/want from a community right now?

I am a DACA recipient and a medical doctor. Being a full MD means that there are some pathways to citizenship through workplace sponsorship or self sponsorship in my research or work with rural communities. My focus continues to be expanding access to care for community members of marginalized racial and economic groups and I'd like to be a part of supporting collaborative efforts.

What kind of civic connection are you interested in making?

I am interested in health policy and especially any changes to OHP which would limit access for community members without a documented status. While the Latino community in Oregon was described to me as smaller than in New Mexico, I have seen that is not true but am new to the area and am curious about ongoing health access projects and the work that is already being done by community organizations. I am curious to learn more about what my role could be as a physician-educator.
